Celina and Stony Point capture 2009 7 - on - 7 state titles in College Station
After some deep runs into the playoffs the last couple of years, Stony Point claimed the Division I 7-on-7 State Championship with a win over Cy-Fair by a score of 33-31 . Celina beat Rice Consolidated 34-19 in the Division II game to claim their third 7-on-7 state title.
Stony Point used a late interception to pull out their victory. With the clock ticking and just under two minutes to go in the game, Cy-Fair was looking to control the clock and preserve their lead when the Stony Point defense returned an interception for a touchdown resulting in a two point lead that would end up proving to be the difference in the game.
Celina broke the Division II game open late as they used a pair of late touchdowns to build their lead.
The Fox Sports Southwest 7-on-7 has grown over the years and provides an outstanding opportunity for players to improve their skills and interact with other teams from around the state of Texas. Volunteers coach the teams and several sponsors, such as Adidas and Advocare, are involved in helping build a successful event that has become a summertime family favorite on the campus of Texas A&M University.
