TexasA&M Corpus Christi streaks past Lamar University handing Lamar their first home loss since December 2007
Texas A&M Corpus Christi used a spectacular night shooting the ball to defeat Lamar University in Beaumont
Wednesday night by a score of 89-71.
With the win, TAMU CC (10-9, 4-0) stayed unbeated in the Southland Conference as Lamar dropped to 1-3 in conference play and 10-7 overall.
Lamar found themselves contending with an Islanders squad that was shooting the ball well
as they struggled to solve the red hot shooting of TAMU CC. The Islanders scorched the nets for 55 percent shooting on the night but found themselves behind 19-11 early in the game after a 6-0 spurt by the Cardinals midway thru the first half of play.
Down by eight points and looking to make sure the Cardinal lead did not reach doubl digits, the Islanders offense went to work as they went on an 18-4 run which included 9 points coming off three pointers. The offensive burst was enough to help the Islanders take a double digit lead into half-time as they led 47-35.
TAMU CC continued their hot shooting in the second half as they continued to build on their
double digit lead. Lamar fought their way back late in the second half cutting the lead to single
digits but was unable to take the lead from the Islanders.
Lamar Forward Jay Brown tied a school-record for blocks in a game with nine. He also added
eight points and pulled down 12 rebounds. Teammate Kenny Dawkins led Lamar in scoring
with 17-points. Ashton Hall chipped in 13 points and Triston Worrell finished with 11 points.
TAMU CC was led by Kevin Palmer with 23 points, he was also the leader rebounder for the
Islanders with 7 boards. Timm Green had a solid night from the field with 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting.
