Brian Ching's late goal help Dynamo come away with a draw against Salt Lake and extend unbeaten streak to 11
HOUSTON - With 17,151 fans looking on, the Houston Dynamo rallied late to tie the game and come away with a 1-1 draw on a Brian Ching goal. Ching's goal came at the 89th minute as he used a perfectly placed header to tie the game and preserve the streak.
Their unbeaten streak, which currently stands at 11, is the longest by any MLS team this season and it ties a team record which was set in 2007.
Real Salt Lake was looking for its second straight road win as they came to Houston looking for their first ever win in the Bayou City. But it wasn't meant to be on this Saturday night at Robertson Stadium as they escaped a goal on a penalty kick that was not allowed due to an offside penalty and then saw keeper Nick Rimando make a diving save late in the second half before Ching was able to send his goal past him and into the net for the tie.
The Dynamo struggled to find their rhythm for most of the game and appeared to be happy to earn the tie and avoid a loss, a loss that seemed inevitable after a Brad Davis penalty kick was stopped at the 73rd minute with the outstanding play by Rimando.
The Dynamo had outscored opponents 16-3 over the course of their unbeaten streak but they were unable to find much success scoring against a Real Salt Lake team that was determined to claim their first win in Houston.
RSL took the 1-0 lead at the 28th minute when defender Bobby Boswell saw a Fabian Espindola attempt carom off his leg and into the net for a RSL goal. Had it not been for Espindola's shot being deflected, it would have sailed wide.
The Dynamo looked as though they had found a spark late in the second half as they pulled even with the late goal but time was not on their side as the game ended minutes later. Though it wasn't the win they were looking for, the Dynamo fought through a sluggish night offensively to hold off RSL and earn a tie.
