PASADENA -- Manvel and Yates took the field at Pasadena Memorial Stadium in Pasadena Friday night hoping to earn a trip to the third round of the playoffs and when the dust settled Yates had made the task a whole lot easier for Manvel by committing five fumbles in their 53-18 loss to the Mavericks.

Maurice White passed for 222 yards on 9-of-14 passing for Yates. He also had 55 yard rushing on 15 attempts. Arthur Lockett added 77 yards on 22 carries.

Yates had a hard time taking care of the ball in the first half and Manvel took full advantage of the turnovers to build a comfortable lead by halftime. Over the first two quarters Manvel scored 27 unanswered points as Yates struggled to turn the tide and offer any type of resistance to a Mavericks team that was steadily gaining momentum.

Selwyn Green scored the first Manvel touchdown at the 5:19 mark of the first quarter on a 20-yard run. Before the half was over five different Mavericks would score touchdowns. Kaylon Melacon scored on a three yard run, Julian Walker ran it in from 11-yards out, Shane McCarley rushed for a 14-yard touchdown and Corey Seymour hauled in a six yard pass from McCarley.

The Yates fumbles seemed to fuel the Manvel offensive fireworks as the Mavericks defense took care of business on their side of the ball which resulted in a 27-0 halftime lead.
Manvel had no plans of seeing Yates scratch their way back into the game and they made sure that did not happen as they opened the second half with a touchdown when McCarley for Seymour for a six yard touchdown pass early in the third quarter.

Yates finally found some offensive success on their next drive when Arthur Lockett sliced through the Manvel defense for a five yard touchdown run to make it 34-6.

The success was short lived for Yates as Manvel responded with 20 unanswered points to totally bury Yates. Yates picked up a late touchdown on a Maurice White 40-yard run with just seconds left in the game but in the end it was Manvel that would live to play another game in the playoffs.
