Austin Toros Fast Start Results in Road Win Over the Texas Legends
The Austin Toros bounced back from a loss to the Texas Legends (19-24) on Friday with a 114-99 road win Saturday over the Legends at Dr Pepper Arena.
The Toros (18-23) used a fast start in the first quarter to hold the lead early on. The Texans chipped away at the Toro lead and managed to take a 26-24 lead in the last few seconds of the quarter when Booker Woodfox hit a three pointer.
The Legends built on the Woodfox three pointer as they used the momentum to open the second quarter by outscoring the Toros 9-0 as they increased their lead. Later in the quarter the Toros battled back with an impressive 19-6 run to move out in front 47-41. The Legends closed out the half with a pair of baskets to cut the lead down to 51-47 at the end of the first half.
Cardell Johnson turned in a strong first half with 14 points. The Legends Joe Alexander helped pace Texas' first half scoring with 15 points.
Both teams held their own in the third quarter of play with the Toros holding a six point lead heading into the final quarter with the score 75-69.
The Legends cut the lead to five points in the fourth quarter but the Toros offense kept rolling along on their defense turned up the intensity to help Austin come away with the double digit win by a score of 114-99.
Johnson finished with 26 points to lead Austin. Alexander poured in 32 points to lead all scorers.
