Austin Toros Withstand Trey Johnson's 43 Points to Defeat The Bakersfield Jam

Austin, TX – The Austin Toros withstood a phenomenal shooting night by the Bakersfield Jam's Trey Johnson and a key bucket by to tie the game up late to come away with a hard fought 103-99 win Wednesday night at Cedar Park Center.

Trey Johnson, the D-League player of the week, poured in 12 points in the first quarter to help the Jam hold a slim 28-27 lead at the end of the first quarter. Johnson stayed red hot as he proved to be a thorn in the side of the Toros by scorching the nets to the tune of 43 points.

The game stayed close throughout the first half as the Toros used a strong shooting performance from behind the arch as they shot 70 percent on three pointers. Garrett Williamson tied the game up at 54-54 at the end of the first half when he shook a Jam defender and drained a half-court shot at the buzzer.

Both teams played solid during the second half but the Toros bench played a huge role in offsetting Johnson's 43 point 11 rebound performance by scoring 38 points. Kevin Palmer came off the bench to contribute 19 points, including a key three pointer late in the game, and Garrett Williamson chipped in with 12 points.

The Jam had the advantage on the boards as the outrebounded the Toros 44 to 31 and both head coaches endured watching their teams combine to turn the ball over a total of 56 times.

Carldell Johnson provided steady leadership for the Toros offense to finish with 20 points and five assists. Austin's balanced attack led to the Toros finishing with six players scoring in double digits.
