Galveston Ball Unable to Hold Off Texas City in Galveston County Rivalry Game
GALVESTON — Galveston Ball and Texas City took to the field Friday night in Galveston at Kermit Courville stadium as an area rivalry attracted a nice crowd. Galveston Ball (0-6, 0-2) was looking for their first win of the season on their homecoming night but Texas City (3-2, 1-0) dealt them yet another loss by powering their way to a 38-20 win.
Ball had a tough time finding any offensive rythym as they rotated quarterbacks. They were their own worst enemy most of the night with some turnovers and several penalties. At times they looked like they were an improved team after a rough start this season but it was really nothing more than a few flashes of what could be with this team.
Ball opened the second quarter with a scoring drive that was capped by a Jimmarl Littleton five yard run to cut the lead to 16-13 with 8:55 left in the second quarter. The Texas City defense held Ball in check over the rest of the first half of play while their offense put together a late first half drive that Allen finished off with a six yard pass to Marius Quinn with just seconds left in the half which allowed them to extend their lead to 23-13. Quinn leaped high into the air and did an amazing job to get two feet down in the back of the end zone as Ball provided outstanding coverage on the play.
Texas City opened the second half with a quick score when Allen hit Armanti Foreman on a 62-yard touchdown pass as the twin brother combination continued to inflict damage on the Ball defense.
Ball would cut into the 30-13 lead when Jimmarl Littleton outran the Texas City defense on a 30-yard touchdown run with 8:55 left in the game.
D’Onta Foreman struck again at the 3:22 mark when he powered his way into the end zone on a six yard touchdown run to seal the win for Texas City.
Allen completed 17-of-25 passes for 269 yards with three touchdowns for Texas City. D’Onta Foreman totaled 80 yards on 11 carries. Armanti Foreman had four catches for 163 yards.
Galveston Ball was led in rushing by Jimmarl Littleton with 115 yards on 22 carries with three touchdowns and teammate Dorien Dorise carried nine times for 95 yards.
