San Antonio Silver Stars Having a Solid Season   

After opening the season with an impressive 9-1 record, the San Antonio Silver Stars hit a rough spot and dropped three straight games. Then Seattle came to town and the Silver Stars got back to their winning ways with a hard fought 69-66 win. They followed that up with a 10 point win over Los Angeles a few days later when they claimed a 79-69 win.

Seattle dealt the Silver Stars a brief setback in a rematch when they took advantage of a tough shooting night for San Antonio by posting a 55-73 win in Seattle. Then it was on to Washington for the Stars and they regained their focus and came away with a 73-67 win over the Mystics.




























July 18, 2011 - Los Angeles 79 vs San Antonio 69
After snapping a three game losing streak against Seattle, the Silver Stars took to the road looking to continue their winning ways against Los Angeles at the Staples Center. The Stars were unable to match the Stars intensity early on as San Antonio scorched the nets for 29 points in the first quarter to jump out to an early 29-17 by the end of the quarter.

Facing a 42-32 deficit after the first half of play, Los Angeles made their move in the third quarter by outscoring San Antonio in the quarter 23-15 to cut the lead all the way down to 57-55 heading into the fourth quarter.
San Antonio got their offense rolling once again in the final quarter as they outscored the Sparks 22-14 over the final 10 minutes to come away with the 10 point win. Becky Hammon hit four free throws in the final second to help seal the win for the Stars.

Hammon had a stellar night from the field as the totaled 26 points on 8-of-15 shooting including 4-of-8 from behind the arc. Teammate Sophia Young also shot the ball well going 9-of-17 from the field as she finished with 18 points to go along with 10 rebounds for a double-double.

July 21, 2011 - Seattle 73 vs San Antonio 55
It was now on to Seattle and time for a rematch after the Stars claimed a home win against the Storm one week ago. This time it was Seattle protecting their home court as they took advantage of an ice cold shooting Stars offense in the first half to roll on to the convincing win.

San Antonio totaled just 22 points in the first half while Seattle racked up 28 first half points to take a 38-22 lead at the half. The Silver Stars were still unable to mount much of a threat in the third quarter by scoring 13 points and falling behind 57-35 heading into the final 10 minutes of play.

The fourth quarter belonged to San Antonio as they outscored the Storm 20-19 but it was to little to late as they fell by a score of 73-55.

The Stars had three players in double digits with Sophia Young's 12 points leading the way. They shot just 27.7 percent from the field and were out rebounded 37-26. The Storms Tanisha Wright led all scorers with 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting.

July 21, 2011 - Seattle 67 vs San Antonio 73
It was time to put a lopsided loss behind them as the Silver Stars headed to Washington to take on the Mystics, and after trailing at the end of the first quarter, they managed to grind out a 73-67 win on the road.

San Antonio held a slim 37-34 lead after two quarters of play, but with a 14 point third quarter by the Stars, the game was tied up at 51-51 headed into the final quarter.

The Stars saved their best quarter of the night for the fourth quarter as they scored 22 points while their defense held the Mystics to their lowest scoring quarter of the night as they held them to 16 points over the final 10 minutes. The result was a 73-67 win over a Washington team that shot sizzling 53.9 percent from behind the arc.

Becky Hammon led all scorers with 22 points. Hammon was also perfect from the charity stripe with her 7-of-7 free throw shooting. The Stars totaled 12 steals in the game to go along with nine offensive rebounds.

The Silver Stars record now stands at 10-5 going into Thursdays game against Phoenix, the same team that knock them out of the playoffs last year. They are 1-1 against Phoenix so far this season.

July 14, 2011 - Seattle 66 vs San Antonio 69
The Silver Stars were looking to break a three game losing streak and hustled their way to a win over Seattle to get back on the winning track. San Antonio 32-23 lead at the half but Seattle outscored the Silver Stars in the third quarter 19-12 to cut the lead down to 44-42 going into the fourth quarter.
San Antonio kept the Storm in check in the fourth quarter and kept them from going on much a run while they got their offense rolling in to the tune of 25 points in the quarter to hold on for the win.
Rookie Danielle Adams, out of Texas A&M, led the way for the Silver Stars with her 23 points and six rebounds. Danielle Robinson chipped in with 12 points and Becky Hammon had six assists. The Stars also totaled 12 steals.
