Southwestern Wraps Up Regular Season With a Split Against Millsap
Georgetown, Texas- Southwestern (27-13, 13-3) wrapped up their regular season Sunday afternoon at home with a split against Millsaps. The Pirates won the first game by a score of 7-0 before dropping the second game 4-6. With their 13-3 conference record, Southwestern finished in first place in the West.
Southwestern pushed their first run across in the bottom of the first inning when Kaitlyn Pavlicek put the Pirates up 1-0 with an RBI double. Karen Ramirez came through a couple of innings later when she helped Southwestern extend their lead to 2-0 with an RBI on her first hit of the game.
The Pirates busted loose for a big inning in the sixth as they plated five runs. The big hit of the inning came courtesy of a Pavlicek three run home run.
Millsap struggled to mount much of a threat as Lauren Zearfoss notched her 16th win of the season. She struck out six and gave up just one hit without allowing any runs.
Pavlicek drove in four runs in the game as she went 4-for-4 at the plate.
In game two Millsaps got their bats going early as they picked up two early runs to claim and early lead. They kept the pressure on at the plate as they scored two more runs in the fourth inning.
The Pirates got on the board with a single run in the fourth inning but Millsap answered right back the sixth with a couple of runs of their own to hold to a 6-1 lead. The Pirates rallied in the bottom half of the inning with three runs to cut the lead to 6-4 but that is as close as they would get.
The Pirates Lyndsy Maus took the loss as she allowed six run on 12 hits to go along with four strike outs.
Millsap got a solid performance from Layla Irvin as she went 3-for-4 in the game with an RBI and two runs scored. Karen Ramrirez went 2-for-2 and scored a run.
Lyndsay Drane recorded the win for the Majors with seven strong innings allowing four runs on 10 hits.
