Pflugerville Panthers Use a Huge Second Quarter to Open a Big Lead and Roll Past Akins

Pflugerville (3-1) bounced back from their first loss of the season last week with a convincing win over Akins (0-5) Thursday night at Burger Stadium. After losing last week to perennial powerhouse Westlake, the Panthers were in fine form as they rolled to a 49-21 win, proving to be to much for an Akins team that fought hard the entire game.

Akins took an early lead when D'Auuhndre Raindle rumbled 61-yards for the first touchdown of the game. Jordan Acosta added the extra point putting Akins up 7-0.

Pflugerville would answer later in the first quarter with a scoring drive of their own that was capped by a Storm Woods three yard touchdown run and a Jeffrey Garelick extra point that tied the game up at 7-7.

The Panthers mounted another scoring drive early in the second quarter when Sammy Flowers hauled in an Alex Dean 40-yard pass and outran the Akins defense for a 14-0 Pflugerville lead.

Akins fought back to tie the game when they used a long pass play of their own to score their second touchdown of the night. It came in the form of a Kenny Davis 69-yard touchdown pass to Chris Auld which allowed Akins to even the score up at 14-14.

Pflugerville then exploded for three more second quarter touchdowns to put the game out of reach. Woods raced 64-yards for his second touchdown of the game and that was followed by a Flowers 70-yard touchdown run. The Panthers fourth touchdown of the quarter came on a quarterback keeper when Alex Dean scampered 64-yards for his first rushing touchdown of the game and a Pflugerville 35-14 lead.

The Panthers continue to pour it on in the third quarter when Flowers got loose for a 36-yard touchdown run to push the lead out to 42-14.

Eakins picked up a third quarter score when Davis hit Raindle with a 13-yard touchdown pass to cut the lead to 42-21. Akins coughed the ball up in their own end zone a bit later in the third quarter and an alert Joseph Resendez recovered the fumble for Pflugerville extending the panther lead to 49-21, which would prove to be the final score.

Flowers had 77 yards receiving to go along with 123 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Woods rushed for 110 yards on the night.

D'Auuhndre Raindle led Akins with 128 yards rushing with one touchdown on the ground and one reception for a touchdown.
