Harker Height's Early Lead Against Conroe Holds up in Win Over Cougars

Conroe got on the board first Saturday against Harker Heights in the Connally Cougar Classic Baseball Tournament but the lead did not last long as the Knights got their bats going to build a 6-1 lead and come away with a 10-6 win.

Conroe had beaten Harker Heights earlier in the tournament by a score of 14-2 but the found the going a bit tougher in the rematch with the Knights. The Tigers played solid baseball over the weekend as they went 4-1 in the tournament.

Harker Heights had some early success against Conroe starter Zach Garcia. They swung the bats well and by the third inning the Knights held a 6-2 lead.

Conroe got their bats going in the fifth inning when Seth Petter came up with a pinch hit single to chase home a couple of runs and cut the lead to 6-4. Harker Heights answered in the bottom half of the frame when they scored four more runs. All their runs in the inning game with two outs as they increased their lead to 10-4.

The Tigers got a rally going in the top of the sixth when they used a walk, a Greg Belton single, and a Mitch Henshaw RBI single to cut into the Knight lead. Zach Garcia then came through with a two out RBI single before Harker Heights was able to get the final out of the game to end the Conroe rally.
