Galveston College Heads into Post Season Tournament Play After Earning Split With Alvin

Galveston College used some solid pitching to come away with a 4-2 win in game one of a double header Tuesday but found the going tough in game two as Alvin's bats were red hot in leading the way to a 13-4 win.

In game one Galveston's pitching provided a solid effort as Sarah Shatton tossed four plus innings giving up four hits and striking out eight. Katy Adair cam on in relief and gave up just two hits and struck out two.

Mallory Livingston's bat helped lead the way for the Whitecaps offense as she went 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI in the 4-2 Galveston win.

Game two turned into a slug fest with Alvin coming out on top. Adair got the start for Galveston while Cally Alvin played long ball in the fifth inning when, with two outs, Adela Gomez connected for a two run home run. After an infield hit and a walk, Galveston coach Ken Delcambre called on Shatton to relieve

Adair. She issued a walk to the first batter she faced but got out of the a bases loaded jam with a  strikeout.

Galveston got a two run home run of their own in the bottom of the fifth when Amanda Skaggs went deep with two outs. Then Shatton made it back-to-back home runs when she connected on a line shot down the left field line that cleared the fence. That brought on Mari Noguera on in relief for Alvin and she responded with a strike out to get out of the inning leading by a score of 4-3.

Alvin put two runners on in the top of the sixth inning but missed out on a run when the Whitecaps made a stellar play on a ball hit to the outfield as they gunned down an Alvin runner at the plate. Casey Santos made up for the loss of a run at the next at bat when she slapped an RBI hit to left allowing Athena Garza to score.

Alvin's bats heated up in the top of the seventh inning allowing them to blow the game open. After a lead off laid down a bunt single to load the bases and then Brenicia Woods stepped to the plate and unloaded a grand slam home run to push the lead out to 9-4.

Five out of the next seven Alvin batters delivered hits and before the inning was over they had built a 13-4 lead. Galveston got a lead off double in the bottom half of the inning but Alvin got three consecutive ground outs to avoid a Whitecaps rally and come away with the game two win.
