Deer Park Opens Season With a Road Win Over Dickinson

DICKINSON - Deer Park went on the road to Dickinson to open their season Friday Night and used a big second half offensive surge to defeat the Dickinson Gators by a score of 38-21.

Dickinson's defense was able to keep the Deer Park passing attack in check during the first half as they harrassed Deer Quarterback Austin Rainer and played great pass defense. At one point the Gator defense forced six straight incompletions by Rainer.

Dickinson defensive back Dontae Caine was a big part of the Gator secondary getting the job done in the first half but he went down with an injury in the second half. That is when the Deer offense seemed to hit their stride as Rainer connected for two touchdowns, a 49 yarder and a 51-yarder to Eric Luna. Rainer had a stellar second half passing for 116 yards as he guided to Deer offense to break open the game after trailing 14-10 at the half.

Deer Park cut the lead to 14-10 before halftime when Zane Gonzales kicked a 22-yard field goal at the 3:07 mark.

Dickinson's defense came unraveled in the second half as the Deer offense rolled. The Gator offense would manage to pick up one more touchdown, a 3-yard run by Preston late in the third quarter.

Preston totaled 153 yards rushing for the Gators and Meza finished with 140 yards on the ground to go along with 74 yards passing.

Rainer threw for 173 yards with two touchdowns and teammate Eric Luna finished with 135 yards receiving and two touchdowns. Justin James led the Deer rushing attack with 124 yards.
