Brazos Valley Bombers drop a close one at home  to the Victoria Generals by a score of 3-2

The Victoria Generals (26-13) held off the Brazos Valley Bombers (18-21) Saturday night to come away with a 3-2 win at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark.

Terrence Murphy was on hand to throw out the first pitch and several guest joined him to throw out celebrity first pitches. The guest included Texas A&M Aggies quarterback Jerrod Johnson, basketball start Nathan Walkup, J.T. Higgins, Aggies national champion golf coach, and women's tennis coach Bobby Kleinecke.

Travis Smith got the start on the mound for the Bombers and battled with General's starter Chase Cleveland. Both teams were able to get a run across in the third inning as the game stayed tied over the first four innings of play.

The Generals were able to move out in front in the fifth inning when Tyler King singled and later scored on a Bomber's error putting Victoria up 2-1. Cleveland then put the Bombers down in order before the Generals came to bat and tacked on another run. Kenny Jackson's patience at the plate payed off as he drew a walk two-out walk and then Brian Nephew singled to left. Tyler King was able to pick up an RBI as he slapped a single to left allowing Jackson to score and extend the lead to 3-1.

The Bombers picked up a run in the eighth when Wes Schill and Jaoquin Hinojosa picked up back-to-back singles and a wild pitch would later allow Schill to score Brazos Valley's second run of the game. Cleveland was able to get out of the jam after getting a pop-up and a strike out.

Cleveland registered his first complete game of the season as he went the distance and picked up the win. Smith went six strong innings for the Bombers striking out seven and giving up just two earned runs.

The Bomber's will look to bounce back with a win Sunday evening as they take on the Generals again at 7:05 pm.
