The Baylor Bears High Powered Offense Leads the Way in Win over UT

WACO --- Robert Griffin III led the Baylor Bears against the Texas Longhorns Saturday at Floy Casey Stadium in Waco and showed why he is quickly becoming a Heisman Trophy favorite by turning in another steller perormance in leading the Bears past Texas by a score of 48-24.

"They manned us up and we pride ourselves (in our speed.) We take offense when they man us up. We hit them over the top and put up points early," said Baylor wide receiver Kendall Wright.

The Texas offense figured they better find some success or it was going to be a long day for their offense and they responded with 21 straight points. McCory connected on touchdown passes to Blaine Irby, Luke Poehlmann, and a huge 80-yard scoring strike to Marqui Goodwin at the 7:40 mark of the second quarter to put the Horns out in front 21-14.

Texas tied the game up on the opening drive of the second halg with a Justin Tucker 39-yard field goal but the Bears did a good job of using their first half momentum to come out strong in the second half and build on their lead. On their first drive of the third quarter they put together a 75-yard six play drive that was capped off with a Terrance Ganaway one yard touchdown run and Baylor was back out in front 31-24.

yards on 12 carries with two rushing touchdowns. Ganaway rolled up 153 yards rushing on 23 carries with two touchdowns. Kendall Wright had six receptions for 166 yards and one touchdown. Terrance Williams had four catches for 88 yards and one touchdown for the Bears.

Texas was led in rushing by D.J. Monroe with 77 yards on eight carries. Case McCoy passed for 356 yards on 24-of-39 passing with three touchdowns. The Longhorns were led in receiving by Marqui Goodwin with five receptions for 129 yards. Teammate Jaxon Shipley totalled 121 yards receiving on four receptions.

The Longhorns defense had plenty of trouble trying to slow the Bears offense, Griffin, who many expected to have yet another big game, gave them fits most of the day but running back Terrance Ganaway and receiver Kendall Wright also helped pace the Bears offense.

Baylor (9-3, 6-8) set the tone early when Griffin connected with Wright on a 59-yard touchdown pass on the second play from scrimmage to give the Bears a 7-0 lead as the home crowd roared with their approval.

Griffin figured he would stick with what was working on the Bears next possession when he found Wright once again for a 48-yard pass play that was followed by a Ganaway 20-yard touchdown run. It was now 14-0 and the Longhorns (7-5, 4-5) must have figured they were in for a long day trying to stop Griffin and a Bears offense that was capable of putting up some big numbers.
Aaron Jones helped the Bears cut into the lead at pull to within 24-17 when he booted a 22-yard field goal minutes later to cap a 7-play 65-yard drive.

Griffin put the Bears out in front with just 28 seconds left to play in the half when he ran it in from two yards out allowing Baylor to take a 24-24 lead at the half.

"It’s critical. We came back with 10 unanswered points, so that part, I think, shows a lot of maturity. Three years ago, four years ago, I don’t know what would’ve happened if we had gotten ahead of Texas 14-0. People would have been checking the score to see if it’s right. It’s not that way anymore, said Baylor head coach Art Briles.
It was all Baylor after that as Griffin rushed for one touchdown, threw for another, and Jones added another field goal as the Bears finished off Texas to the tune of 48-24.

"Give Baylor a lot of credit, they came ready to play and played really well. Robert Griffin III is a great player. I think we have four out of the top five quarterbacks in the country this year. All of them should be considered for the Heisman because they are all really good. Obviously, we moved the ball better tonight than we have been, but we turned the ball over five times. We can't do that. Our five turnovers led to 27 points for them, which got us out of the ballgame," said Texas Head Coach Art Briles.

Griffin finished with 320 yards passing on 15-of-22 passing and two touchdowns.  He rushed for 38
