Baylor Quarterback Robert Griffin Has Career Day in Leading The Bears Past Buffalo at Floyd Casey Stadium
Waco, Texas --The Baylor Bears (2-0) claimed their second win of the young 2010 season Saturday with a convincing 34-6 win over Buffalo (1-1) at Floyd Casey Stadium in Waco, Texas before a crowd of 40.853. Robert Griffin set a new career-high with 297 yards passing on the day, helping the Bears post their second straight 30 plus point win.
Griffin helped lead the Bears to a convincing first half lead with his first touchdown of the day when he scored on a 5-yard touchdown run with Baylor facing a fourth-and-2. The scoring drive followed a Aaron Jones 30-yard field goal to put the Bears out in front 10-0.
Baylor’s defense gave Buffalo all the could handle in the early going as they kept the Bulls offense in check, which helped the potent Bears offense stay on the field. After the Bulls got on the board with an A.J. Principe 25-yard field goal field goal in the first quarter, Griffin and the Baylor offense went back to work and mounted two scoring drives in the second quarter.
The first was a spectacular 61-yard touchdown strike to Kendall Wright that was followed by another long pass play that went for 43-yards when Griffin hooked up with Willie Jefferson for yet another Bears touchdown to push their lead out to 24-3.
Jones connected for his second field goal of the day late in the second quarter allowing the Bears to take a commanding 27-3 lead into halftime.
Baylor came out in the third quarter continuing to roll on offense and managed to extend their lead to 34-3 when Griffin scored his second rushing touchdown of the game on a 1-yard plunge. The drive covered 78-yards in five plays.
Baylor allowed another Buffalo field goal at the 6:18 mark of the third quarter but went on the shut out the Bulls offense the rest of the way as they came away with their second win of the season against no losses. This is the first 2-0 start for Baylor since 2005.
Jay Finley led Baylor in rushing with 80-yards on 13 carries. Robert Griffin carried five times for 27 yards and two touchdowns. The Bears totaled 193-yards on the ground.
Buffalo Quarterback Jerry Davis was 18-of-46 passing for 163 yards and one interception. The Bulls totaled 180-yards rushing with Brandon Oliver leading the way as he rushed for 80-yards on 17 carries. Terrell Jackson totaled 60 yards receiving on six receptions.
Baylor will be on action next Saturday when they take on TCU in Fort Worth with the kickoff scheduled for 3:30 pm.
