Baytown Sterling Powers Past Crosby in Lee College Summer League Basketball
BAYOTWN, TEXAS - It was a tale of two halves Thursday when Baytown Sterling took on Crosby in the Lee College Summer Basketball League with Sterling pulling away in the second half to claim a 71-62 win.
Both teams worked hard to get out to an early lead but it was Crosby that had the early success as they moved out in front early. They used a steady rotation of players to keep some fresh players on the floor and keep the pressure on Sterling.
It worked well in the first half as they were able to extend their lead to double digits on a few occasions. At time Crosby would rotate five players in at a time as they looked to create some mismatches and keep up an intense pace.
Sterling was not willing to let the game get away from them in the second half even though Crosby kept up the hectic pace as they looked to build on their lead. Both teams fought hard in the third quarter hoping to make a run in the fourth quarter and put the game away,
Crosby's bench helped them build their first half lead but that all changed in the fourth quarter as Sterling found some key combinations that helped them eventually take the lead. Once they had the lead, they turned up the defensive intensity that resulted in several steals and helped create some offensive opportunities.
The Sterling defense challenged ever single Crosby possession in the fourth quarter and they had great success in creating havoc for Crosby. Once they figured out how to disrupt the Crosby offense, Sterling took full advantage of the turnovers to come away with some easy baskets and a hard fought 72-62 win.
