Akins Earns a Hard Fought Win Over Georgetown

AUSTIN --- Akins and Georgetown took the court in the Akins Holiday Basketball Tournament looking to come away with a win and stay on course for claiming the tournament championship. In the end it was Akins coming away with the victory as they took care of business on their home court to come away with the 47-46 win.
Georgetown was able to build an early lead as they took advantage of Akins cold outside shooting and worked hard on the boards to grab some defensive rebounds.

Akins closed out the first quarter with just three points as their offense was unable to get much going. They finally found some success in the second quarter as they went on a couple of runs to close the gap and even take the lead at one point.

The second half was intense as both teams looked to build a lead but it remained close and looked like it could go down to the last possession.

And that is exactly what happened. Each team turned it up a notch on defense and looked to get some key baskets down the stretch but it was Akins hit the big shot late allowing them to take a late one point lead.

Both teams had to make some free throw late in the game but it came down to Georgetown having the last possession and a chance to win but Akins held on to win 47-46 after Georgetown failed to convert with time running out.
